HTTP proxy server is a proxy allowing to work on the Internet with HTTP and (not always) FTP protocols. It can carry out caching of information downloaded from the Internet. HTTP proxy servers have several anonymity levels:

Transparent - these proxies are not anonymous. They don't hide IP-address of a client and let a web server know that you are surfing through a proxy server. The task of such proxies, as a rule, is information caching and/or support of Internet access for several computers via single connection. Such proxies are not applicable for security and privacy while surfing on net. You can use them only for network speed improvement.
Anonymous - these proxies don't show your real IP but change the request fields so it is very easy to detect that you are using proxy.
High Anonymous - these proxy servers do not pass an IP-address of a client and don't send any variables indicating that you are using proxy server to host and look like real browser.

SOCKS is a networking proxy protocol that enables hosts on one side of a SOCKS server to gain full access to hosts on the other side of the SOCKS server without requiring direct IP-reachability. SOCKS is often used as a network firewall, redirecting connection requests from hosts on opposite sides of a SOCKS server. How to setup Outlook Express to use proxy servers

Outlook Express doesn't have Internet proxy settings. So, you need additional software to configure Outlook Express to work through proxy server. You can use freeware called SocksCap.

How configure Outlook Express to work through proxy servers:
• Download SocksCap free of charge.
• Run SocksCap.
• Select File -> Settings in SocksCap menu.
• Enter proxy address in the "SOCKS Server" and proxy port in "Port" field.
• Select SOCKS Version 4 or SOCKS Version 5.
• Click OK.
• Now you should add Outlook Express to SocksCap (create Outlook Express profile):
Select File -> New in the SocksCap menu and using "Browse" button select Outlook Express
or simply click and drag Outlook Express shortcut icon into the SocksCap window and select "New application profile" (the profile name and working directory will be filled in automatically) and click "OK".
Now you should run Outlook Express from SocksCap and it will work through proxy server.

Configure Mozilla Thunderbird proxy settings

To find proxy settings, configure proxy settings or change proxy settings:
• Select Tools -> Options
• Select Advanced.
• Open "Offline and Connections Settings"
• Click the "Connection Settings" button next to "Set up Proxies for accessing the Internet".
• Put the radio button for "Manual proxy configuration"
• In the necessary proxy field(s), set Proxy Server address and proxy port.

• "mIRC options" window appears.

My application doesn't have proxy settings. How can I configure it to work through proxy server?

If your application doesn't have proxy settings, you need special software to configure your application to work through proxy servers. You can use freeware called SocksCap. Using SocksCap you can configure any application that doesn't support proxies (has no proxy settings) to work through proxy servers. If SocksCap is configured for the proxy server, you do not need to configure any of your Internet programs. Simply click and drag your application into the SocksCap program control window, start the program and you will surf through the proxy.
How configure application that doesn't have proxy settings to work through proxy server:
• Download SocksCap free of charge.
• Run SocksCap.
• Select File -> Settings in SocksCap menu.
• Enter your proxy address in the "SOCKS Server" and proxy port in "Port" field.
• Select SOCKS Version 4 or SOCKS Version 5 depending on your needs.
• Click OK.
• Now you should add your application to SocksCap (create application profile):
Select File -> New in the SocksCap menu and using "Browse" button select your application
or simply click and drag your application shortcut icon into the SocksCap window and select "New application profile" (the profile name and working directory will be filled in automatically) and click "OK".

• I want to use external script for proxy checking. What do I do?

You should download our CGI proxy checking script (written on Perl) and install it on your server. You can also use your own scripts (e.g. on PHP, ASP) if they are based on ProxyWay Proxy Checker Script.
To install Proxy Checker Script on your server:
• Perl interpreter must be installed on you server.
• You need to have access to run a Perl Script and have CGI enabled on your hosting account or server.
• You must know the path to the Perl interpreter.
• You should change the first line in a script so it points to the path to perl interpreter on your server.
Usually the path to Perl is #!/usr/bin/perl or #!/usr/local/bin/perl So open script in any text editor and change #!/usr/bin/perl to the necessary path.
• Upload the script to any executable folder (cgi-bin or other appropriate directory) in ASCII mode.
• Perl scripts must be marked as "executable" in order to run properly when called by the web server. This is usually done by setting Execute permission (for Unix-based web servers) or Script permission (for Windows NT-based servers).
• In your web browser, type in the address bar area full URL to the Proxy Checker script. e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/checker.pl
If everything is right, you'll see the text that begins with "ProxyWay REMOTE_HOST"
